Holding a Family Meeting & Assigning Age-Appropriate Chores for Kids

You’re invited to change the way your family handles chores.

Who: Gather your family together. Everyone who is part of the household should do their part to keep it clean and organized.

What: Call a family meeting to discuss how housework is being handled and assign everyone a set of chores that is appropriate for their age.

When: Pick a time that works for everyone. Stick to the schedule and let everyone know that even if this meeting is a first, there will be more.

Where: Whether it’s the dinner table or the family room, pick a spot where everyone is comfortable and you’ll have their undivided attention. Minimize distractions, so keep computers or phones off and away, for the duration of the meeting.

Why: Odds are, household tasks and chores for kids are inequitably divided. Make it a family mission to share in the responsibility and ensure that every room in the house stays clean and organized.
