How to Make Donuts in a Bag

Shake up your favorite holiday treat with delectable donuts in a bag! Follow our freshly baked donut recipe and allow donuts to cool on a wire rack. Select the donut flavor of your choice – Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Spice or Chocolate Spice – from the three recipes below and mix up coatings in a one gallon Hefty® Storage Slider Bag. To make your own donuts at home, follow the directions below for the donuts, and try out our suggestions for fun toppings.

Ingredients for the Donut Batter:

  • 1 cup flour 
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar 
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice 
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk 
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice 

Directions to Bake Donuts:

  1. PREHEAT the oven to 350°. Spray mini donut pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. COMBINE flour, granulated sugar, born sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and allspice in a large mixing bowl. Stir the dry mixture to incorporate. 
  3. ADD the egg, milk and orange juice and continue stirring until a thick batter has formed. 
  4. SPOON or pipe the batter into the cavities of the mini donut pans, filling each 2/3 full. 
  5. BAKE in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until donuts golden and firm. 
  6. COOL in pan for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. 
  7. PLACE melted butter in a small bowl, set aside. Combine topping flavors of choice (below) in a Hefty® Gallon Storage Slider Bag. Close bag and shake to incorporate.
  8. DIP twelve mini donuts in melted butter, then transfer to filled bag. Close bag and shake until donuts are fully coated. Repeat with additional donuts as necessary.

Chocolate Spice Donuts: To make your own rich chocolate spice donuts at home, follow the instructions above to make the donuts, and mix together this combination of ingredients for the topping.

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted 
  • 2/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder 
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon 
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice

Pecan Pie Donuts: You can have your pie and a donut too with this combination of toppings for your baked donuts.

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted 
  • 2 cups pecans, crushed
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar 

Pumpkin Spice Donuts: This combination of flavors is perfect for fall. Have it for breakfast or dessert.

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
