Easy DIY Instruments: Homemade Maracas

Rainy day or stuck at home? Treat your family to some fun with a lively living room dance party! Get the beats started with a DIY instrument craft project. Traditional maracas have been shaking around since ancient Morocco, but you can still make your very own homemade maracas even if you don’t have any dried gourds or coconuts lying around your home! Get crafty and colorful with Hefty® Everyday Foam Plates, tempura paints and dried beans. You can also bring these percussion instruments to the nearest parade or football game to celebrate in style.

Here’s a tip: Save money on paint! Purchase paint in primary colors (blue, red and yellow) and use Hefty® Everyday Foam Plates as mixing palettes for blending additional colors. Remember: red + blue = purple, yellow + blue = green, and red + yellow = orange.
