11 Post-Party Clean Up Tips

By Kitchen Daily

The party is always the fun part. Cleaning up? Not so much.

The good news is that there are a lot of simple ways to prevent the party mess from piling up. Separate the clean up into two parts: the preparation and the aftermath. Before the party, make sure you have a few essentials like plastic cups, and that the dishwasher is empty. These are a few simple ways to make it easier on yourself after everyone's gone, but they aren't the only tricks.

Here are 11 ways to make your life easier when it comes to post-party clean-up.

1. Empty Dishwasher

Before hosting an event, make sure the kitchen is clean and that the dishwasher is empty. That way, when the time comes you can load it up.

2. Plastic Cups and Plates

Plan ahead and get plastic dishware. They're easy to recycle after the event—and you won't have all of that glassware to wash afterward.

3. Use Tablecloths

Tablecloths don't just look pretty, they prevent a table from getting spilled on and stained. You can fold it up and toss it in the wash after the party (or you can opt for a disposable one and just toss it in the trash).

4. Provide Coasters

Keep coasters out around rooms your guests will be occupying during the party. With glasses on coasters, you won't have water spots or ring stains to clean later.

5. Treat Grease Stains With Lemon

In addition to making the trash and fridge smell great, lemons are also a good way to get rid of grease stains. Rub lemon juice on the affected item, let it sit overnight and then wash it normally.

6. Clean With Beer!

If you don't have any stain removing liquid around, you can also try beer. Yes, you read that right. Rubbing a little bit of beer on a rug can lift the stain off.

7. Keep Trash Bags Handy

Have an open trash bag out so guests can toss any disposable cups and plates they're using as the evening progresses. Keeping a trash bag out will subtly encourage guests to help you out with the clean up before the party's even over.

8. Vacuum

It's not ideal to be cleaning during the party, but if you have your vacuum handy you can easily get rid of any big accidental crumb spills quickly so guests aren't stepping in the mess and spreading it around the house with their shoes.

9. Plastic Containers

Make sure you have plastic containers to store any leftovers you have—or even send them home with guests.

10. Clean Off Counters

One of the first things you should do after guests leave is wipe down your counters. Remove any spills as soon as possible so that you aren't dealing with any more difficult-to-remove stains later.

11. Make A List

When the guests leave, do a few simple things like wiping up spills and storing perishable food items in the refrigerator. Then, make a list of things to clean up the next day so you aren't overwhelmed at once.
